Match Report
Cathedral School, Llandaff Girls-U15A vs  Wycliffe College
On: Saturday, 21 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The U15 girls travelled to Wycliffe on a day more suited to relaxing by a poolside than laying a high paced hockey fixture. The game began with temperatures reaching close to 30 degrees, but both sides were determined to play a fast flowing, end to end game which saw attack dominate defence for the most part. The first twenty minutes saw CSL match their opponents and, after conceding an early goal, fight back to draw level through Rhian L; however, just as it appeared that the sides would reach the break on level terms, tired legs and the lack of substitutes to rest them started to take their toll, and Wycliffe scored two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead on the stroke of half time. Bouyed with confidence, Wycliffe struck again with three quick counter attacks to lead 6-1 only ten minutes into the second half, but CSL showed character and determination to not only prevent their opponents from extending their lead further, but also to have a create a considerable amount of pressure on the Wycliffe goal in the latter stages; only a series of fine saves and solid penalty corner defence preventing CSL from gaining a deserved consolation score before the end of the game.
