Match Report
Cathedral School, Llandaff Boys-U13A vs  The King's School, Gloucester
On: Saturday, 09 Oct 2021
Venue: at Home

This Saturday presented an opportunity for CSL U13’s to play against strong opposition in the form of Kings School Gloucester. CSL were able to field two full teams that would go on to play some fast, free flowing rugby.

CSL A team brought energy and a competitive edge from the first whistle. Strong initial carries from Tomos S and Joshua G meant that much of the first period was played in KG half. Whilst territory was heavily in Llandaff’s favour, possession was not as KG were doing a great job of turning over the ball on several occasions stopping the momentum of the Llandaff side. It wasn’t until some great skills from Patrick M that the deadlock was broken with a well taken try. This in turn led to further opportunities for several players including a brilliant length of the pitch interception try.

During the half time talk the team decided to set a goal of ‘no high tackles’, which had led to a string of opportunities for the opposition in the previous half. Harry D, Myles H and Oscar R were three of many who demonstrated this skill particularly well making sure to tackle at hip height or lower; no high tackle penalties were conceded in the second half. Another string of tries from multiple players resulted in an impressive score line in favour of the CSL, who can be proud of their performance and efforts on the day.

Despite heading home with the win, the CSL players acknowledged that there are still improvements to be made, notably, passing into space whilst maintaining forward momentum. Skills that will be worked on during next weeks training.
