Hardball

The girls U13A team arrived at Hereford with excitement level through the roof as they were about to play their first hardball match in the schools history.

CSL bowled first and set a great pace with wickets from Catrin VO, Mia D, Phoebe M, Elizabeth JJ, Poppy R and Gwen MO, which meant that Hereford ended with a chase-able score. Other noticeable performances from Alys W (bowler/fielder of the match) who put in a brilliant performance at wicket keeper. And Issy R (batter of the game) whose captaincy and game knowledge helped to minimise the oppositions score left CSL feeling very confident.

Plentiful batting performances from Alys, Issy and Pheobe put CSL in a good position to win the match scoring a number of well timed boundaries. Unfortunately, CSL were not able to keep up the momentum and some sloppy errors resulted in the girls just falling short of the mark.

Overall, this was a fantastic performance for what was a first attempt at hardball Cricket for most. The team spirit and support was clear from the very start of the game and reflected CSL’s ethos brilliantly. The players did themselves proud and should be happy with their efforts this season!

Softball

A mixed U12/13 softball team started off strong, despite some excellent and consistently strong bowling from the opposition. The girls kept pushing hard, with Naomi P (batter of the match) Salma A and Aadya A, scoring a number of boundaries, supported by Olivia M who ran a lot of quick singles. When the girls moved onto fielding there was some fantastic work from Phoebe B who stopped many boundaries, keeping the score close throughout. There was great bowling from bowler of the match, Salma A, who took many wickets. Although they put in the performance of the season, the girls narrowly lost to Hereford by 2 runs. There has been such improvement from all of the girls in all aspects of the game and I am sure that we will continue to build on that next season.
