The U15 football team delivered a dominant display of attacking football to overcome a spirited Monmouth side in an eight-goal demolition on Saturday.
From the opening whistle, the Cathedral School pressed high, and their intent was clear. Monmouth, however, were no pushovers, utilising some interesting defensive techniques and showing glimpses of their own attacking threat on the counter-attack. But it was the Cathedral School who drew first blood, courtesy of a clinical finish from Corey G, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper after a well-weighted through ball for the first of his first-half hat-trick.
The goals kept coming, with Charles C adding to the tally with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, leaving the Monmouth keeper with little chance. Further scores from Tom F and a second from Charles C more or less ended the contest before the half time whistle.
The second half continued in much the same vein, with the Cathedral School maintaining their attacking momentum. Josh S joined the party with an excellent goal thanks to a brilliant cross from Will M-O. The scoring was completed by Henry L, who capped off a fine performance with a composed finish.
Some pleasing football on display Gents; very well played!
